Our Story

Welcome to Hydra Horticulture! All plants are propagated and grown on our property in beautiful Portland, Oregon. Hydra Horticulture (est. 2021) holds a current nursery license with the Oregon Department of Agriculture as well as a shipping permit.

Our growing methods and the shop's values are based on the following:

- Grow with love! We believe that you get back what you put into the world, and this also holds true for growing. Each of these plants have been lovingly grown in the highest quality media. Some have been in our care for months or years in special conditions. Others can be rooted and ready for sale in just a few weeks. We aim to offer only the highest quality plants - and if you're not happy for any reason, we will work with you to make it right.

- Use fertilizers and pesticides sparingly and safely. We rely on meticulous checking and clean grow areas, and only use pesticides when absolutely necessary. Only the healthiest propagations are selected for sale.
Note: Many of the carnivorous plants will contain springtails - these tiny bugs are beneficial and are a sign of healthy media.

- Aim to sustain! You might see all kinds of packing material from us because we do our best to re-use when possible (and if it can be sanitized, it is). We do out part to reduce waste by giving a second life to everything from bubble wrap to Styrofoam. We do have to use some growing media such as peat moss that is not quite as environmentally friendly, but we are careful about buying from reputable sources committed to sustainability.

- All parent plants have been responsibly sourced from reputable growers committed to proper environmental stewardship. We keep meticulous records on plant origins and we are happy to share that information if desired. We enthusiastically support conservation and education efforts via membership and volunteer work with the International Carnivorous Plant Society.
